My brain knows it’s cold. I can see the thermometer at 30ºF. I can see the frozen pool of ice in the back of the oh-so-well-insulated and oh-so-very-watertight ragtop. Yesterday, I could see the one-snowflake-thick bed of snow on the front lawn.
Yet my body does not feel the cold as much as I would expect. I think part of that is that I have acclimated to it fairly well. I also think a very large factor is the lack of windchill. I remember equivalent temperatures on Boston being hell, but Boston gets some chilly ocean winds and Portland is in the Willamette Valley basin and is fairly calm.
