I just got back from massage, where she did 5-10 minutes of a technique new to me: myofascial massage. Ow. Think of those “indian rope burns” you used to give/receive as a kid. Think of those all up and down your back by pinching, squeezing, folding, and stretching skin. It basically massages that tissue between your skin and your muscles, which was about the only thing she could do there for a while because my muscles were so effed up and kept resisting everything. This technique, I guess, helps loosen the tissue, helps the blood flow, and was a sort of diversionary tactic to get the muscles to play well with the massage.

Some people get an hour's worth of that kind of massage. I was close to tears after 10 minutes.
