Remember the beginning of the movie Primer, before the guys have their serendipitous accident and they are manufacturing little electronic gadgets in their garage as a going-nowhere startup company? Today, I am talking to garage startups across the country that manufacture those very same electronic gadgets (JTAG debuggers), trying to get information, demos, and price quotes. Garage startups that have day-jobs and aren't always around to answer the phone or email are sometimes difficult to talk to. On the other hand, big companies that want to sell you basically the same product will inflate the price up to ten grand (from several-hundred-to-a-thousand for the garage startups.)
