Today, I was finally able to go to the Japanese market, Uwajimaya. (For various reasons, I was unable to go earlier in the week when I originally planned to). Let ME tell YOU, this place is awesome. For those that know the glory of the Mitsua in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach, this place is about twice as big. I got some standard staples that are needed in any home: good white rice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, rooster sauce, and men's Pocky (among other things). This market also had fresh fruits and veggies. It also had fresh seafood–and I mean FRESH. There was a washtub full of crayfish crawling about. There were little aquariums of clams and oysters, inviting you to grab a few. There was a nice big tuna on ice, with the good sashimi bits freshly cut out. Anyway, it was really cool, and I picked up a couple of little trays of sashimi for lunch consumption. Image my surprise when I found something at the bottom of the sashimi.
