So, I started a job on Monday.

On Tuesday, I was inches away from quitting.

Yesterday, I had an interview with Connolly’s company, with another on Wednesday. I’m not sure how I am going to make it through next week, even if I only have to be here for half of the week.

You see, I was hired to write Java code and do some Windows stuff and some Unix stuff. Upon arrival, things seemed a little funny. Possibly, the big client that wanted Java code has been dropped. Java won’t happen for, maybe 6 months? Maybe a year? Forget C++. Now, I am doing crap work, code in FoxPro, Delphi, and Access 95 VBA script. Filler work. Grunt work. I don’t know crap about this stuff–ordinarily I jump at the chance to learn new things, but not these ancient, outdated accounting systems. To top it all off, I can’t get straight answers. The company is only about 10 people large, but different people are telling me different things. I’m filling the shoes of someone who quit–or what he fired? Why is he no longer here? I’m not writing Java code for what reason? Nobody is playing above-board on this. Like I said, I nearly quit, except I really need that paycheck.

Hopefully, I will be able to make it through next week and get a job offer from the other company. If not, I might just quit anyway. Or maybe take sick/vacation time or something…
