Boston Police Get Stupidererer

March 1, 2007

You go, Boston!  A mysterious package chained to a pole in the financial district was blown up by police.  Citizens are now protected from both evil traffic counters and Mooninites.
Next time I see a traffic counter, I think I’ll phone it in.

If it happens a few more times, we might have to call it “trendy.”

October 11, 2006

So I guess yet another plane hit yet another Manhattan highrise.  They're saying it's probably not terrorists.

Obligatory Sept 11th post

September 11, 2006

Obligatory Sept 11th post:
Where was I?  What was I doing?  What was I doing the night before?  I don't know.  I was asleep.  I was between jobs.  I was woken up at 10am or perhaps 11 by an excited phone call.  I had a good television with crappy rabbit-ears.  I watched the news services playing […]

We get signal!”

December 15, 2003

Yesterday/last night, I got PHP Gallery up and running on one of my Dreamhost sites.  Mind you, this is not an easy task.  The combination of security restrictions and a funky home directory path makes it not so fun.  Their PHP setup does not allow exec() calls–meaning none of the netpbm image commands will execute.  […]

Blowin’ Shit Up

March 20, 2003

Okay, so it now looks like we are “blowin' shit up.”  I have added to my custom LiveJournal style and our office cam page a body count counter from Iraq Body Count that shows the current civilian body count.  The data is scientifically gathered from a number of sources, and because sources sometimes indicate a […]

History erased via substitution of an identical object

March 8, 2003

According to Kate’s parents, I start channeling David Duchovny as soon as I start talking about one of my big subjects.  You can probably guess what those subjects are–they include, but are not limited to: computers, computer security, programming, h4X0R technique, physical security, electrical engineering, blah, blah, blah whatever.  Of course these are the same […]

The other day I… uh, no, that wasn’t me

March 6, 2003

I learned several things today:
1. My luggage is cheaper to get repaired by the dude at the local luggage shop than it is to get repaired by the free lifetime warranty.  The warranty does not cover shipping very large, very metal, very heavy Zero Halliburton aluminum suitcases and briefcases to Utah or Colorado or whatever.
2. […]

Radio Free Albemuth

February 14, 2002

So, I’m reading this book by Philip K. Dick (he’s the one that wrote the stories that Bladerunner, Total Recall, and Mimic were based upon), Radio Free Albemuth.  There’s this brain-dead President that somehow ended up in office.  He has very aggressive campaigns that are basically worthless.  He is chasing after nonexistent terrorists, for example.  […]

Alas,” said the cat, and ate it up.

November 16, 2001

Why is it that the gub’ment can repeal and/or change a few amendments without a second thought (the Anti-Terrorism Act that makes hacking an act of terrorism, the mandate that terrorists can be tortured, and the order that suspected terrorists can be tried in secret military courts without the right to appeal), yet it takes […]

Collect All 90!

November 7, 2001

Is it me, or does it seem excessive to have baseball cards depicting Operation Enduring Freedom?  Hell, this “war on terrorism” isn’t even over yet!

No “Very Merry Unbirthday” For Me

October 26, 2001

Happy birthday!  Your present?  A new bill.  Everything you do as a hobby is now an act of industrial terrorism and pushed as such.
In the elevator today, I heard “Puttin’ On The Ritz” and all I could think of was the version from Young Frankenstein.
