Ceiling Cat 2

Ceiling Cat is watching you stand around the coffeemaker

While chatting with some coworkers around the coffee station at work, I looked up and was surprised by a ceiling cat.

It would appear that a pattern is available here: http://tubbypaws.blogspot.com/2008/03/meow-you-can-has-lolcats.html

Ketchup Post

I have been doing some housecleaning on the laptop and came up with some photos and videos that were not previously posted.

The Chronulator

The Chronulator is a great little clock kit. It’s a digital analog clock–using digital technology to display the time on analog meters. Apparently the guy who makes the kits is here in Portland. He swung by early new year’s eve as we were getting prepped to go out and delivered the package in person. If it were some other night, I would have chatted with him a bit more.

Cartoon Box Trap

You know, in cartoons, how they have a box propped up with a stick with a string attached? I started doing the same in the kitchen with a cardboard box and pencil. As I was setting it up, on cat triggered it on the other.

Squirrel

I got a “shepherd’s crook” thing for the bird feeder because the squirrels were smart enough to dangle upside from the eves, where the bird feeder was previously. Well, it seems that they are smart enough to just climb up the pole. Duh.

Laugh out Loud

I’ve been following The Laugh Out Loud Cats for a while now and ordered a signed copy of his book. Adam, having never seen Ebenezer, nonetheless drew a pretty good likeness. :) He rarely smokes a cigar, but often carries around a piece of rubber weatherstrip tubing in his mouth.

Food

I know the latter picture is from a recent trip to Pasadena. I have no idea where the first picture comes from. I remember the bar having tables with that imitation-chalkboard-paint applied to them, and there were multicolored sticks of chalk. It had to have been in Portland, but I have no idea where.

To Move

To move, first u up, then u down. This was in the bathroom at an asian-themed bar-slash-restaurant (not restaurant-slash-bar) near the old place. The Jade Lounge, I think it was called.

Next, I need to make a ketchup post on the California trip last month.

LOL I has a blog post, with linkses

The screensaver on the TV is a carousel of photos from I Can Has Cheezburger.   Kim and I were just discussing the grammar the other night.
Now, it seems that someone named Anil has turned a studious eye toward the LOLCATS phenomena and specifically the language.  In his post Cats Can Has Grammar, he looks at the language of those “cat macros” and determines that there is a way to speak “cat” and do it wrong, meaning there has to be an actual grammar with rules.  He concludes from this that there must therefore be a grammar–a sort of creole (“cweeole”) or pidgin.  There is even a visual grammar.  If it is not a white serif font (Arial Black or Impact) with a black outline stroke, it is perceived as not quite right.

Someone named Stephen noted that there are no long-form kitty pidgin works — they are all always just one or two images, never longer–and redid the Star Trek tribble episode in kitty pidgin.

Because there aren’t enough cat pictures already

These are some of my favorite sphinx images from I Can Has Cheezburger? (Actually, the only sphinx images from the site, as far as I can tell)

Mulder, we have your sister Bass Bass Bass

In The Prestige, Nicola Tesla was played by David Bowie. How the eff did I not notice that?!

In other news, I’ve switched from BBEdit to TextMate. BBEdit isn’t even in my dock anymore and only comes up by accident because of file associations. No editor I found on OS X (including those two, SubEthaEdit, and others) had the tab-indents-a-selected-block-of-text feature that I was looking for (well, except Eclipse, but that’s not so much an editor as an IDE that takes 2 minutes to load), but TextMate has all of the features I use in BBEdit, plus some really great tab-completion and plugin functionality and keyboard shortcuts for EVERYTHING. It has a crazy number of keyboard shortcuts which, on the one hand, is a bit overwhelming but on the other means I never have to touch the mouse. There’s also a “universal keyboard shortcut” to bring up a search box of functions/keyboard-shortcuts so that I can learn the right keyboard shortcuts without the mouse. It was written by a Unix hacker, and it really shows. They got my €39. I just need to train my fingers to type “mate blahblah.txt” at a shell prompt instead of “bbedit blahblah.txt”.

I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER? As lolcats showed us before it disappeared, apparently, all pets speak in a combination of l33t and pidgin English.
