Counting Stairs

We went through some office space reshuffling at work that resulted in me being a few floors away from the kitchen. Because of this, I’ve made a conscious effort to take the stairs more often.

I know that my phone has automatic counting of flights of stairs (if you have an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, or 6s Plus then yours does too) and was curious to see exact numbers. If I can see the tracking numbers, I can better work to improve them. That’s when I ran across an app called StairsWell. It counts your flights of stairs and compares them against national monuments. What’s extra-nice is that it can read the phone’s historic health database (once granted permission, naturally) and show you data from before you even installed the app.

My first month (this was a partial month because I got the phone toward the end), I managed to climb to the top of the Taj Mahal, 22 floors.

In October, when I installed the app, I started with the Eiffel Tower. I then progressed through a building in Shanghai, the Empire State Building, Taipai 101, and nearly finished the CN tower.

This first week of November, I’m back at the Eiffel Tower (71 floors and counting).

Sure, it’s kind of silly, but it’s a fun visualization and you may find it interesting to install and play around with.
