“What’s that smell?  Is some­thing on fire?  It smells like some­thing is burn­ing.  It kind of smells elec­tri­cal.  Is the teaket­tle on?  Did it boil dry?  Is it inside, or out the window?”

It turned out to be the heater kick­ing in for the first time in months, and the sub­se­quent burn­ing off of dust from its innerworkings.
